Very interesting article from the Gatestone Institute, about Iran’s influence in Latin America. The article refers to the Iranian financing of the ex Argentinean President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and other socialist leaders of Latin America.
Noteworthy is also Iran’s alliance with Venezuela. Dr Alberto Nisman, an Argentinean special prosecutor, who was investigating Iran’s involvement in terrorist attacks in Argentina, was shot dead on January 18 2015, a few hours before presenting his evidence to the Argentinean congress. See the Guardian “Argentina, Iran and the strange death of Alberto Nisman”, February 2015.
One of the main interests of Iran in Argentine is to buy technology for its nuclear program, in order not to depend on Russia. Russia and Iran are allies, but they are also potential competitors because they both count on oil exports.
